Let’s Talk: Trusting The Lord
If you’ve been following the Lord for any length of time, you’ve likely come across Proverbs 3:5-6:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths."
When reflecting on these verses, ask yourself:
Will you trust Him when things don’t turn out as you expected?
Will you trust Him when it seems like He’s silent and not speaking in the ways He has before?
Will you trust Him enough to wait on Him rather than trying to take control?
Let’s simplify them even more:
What Does The Word "Trust" Mean?
In Hebrew, the word bâtach translates to trust, confidence, reliance, and security. It encompasses the idea of being confident and secure in someone or something.
What Does Trusting The Lord Look Like?
A line from the hymn 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus has been resonating with me recently:
“Oh for grace to trust Him more.”
Trusting the Lord isn't something that just happens by itself. It isn’t about our strength but about His grace. Just as we love Him because He first loved us (1 John 4:19), and choose Him because He first chose us (John 15:16), trusting Him begins with asking for His grace and help. Have you started there?
Once you’ve sought His help, immerse yourself in His Word, which reveals just how trustworthy He is. Unlike humans, who may falter, God never lies. Do you believe you can trust Him, even when the path ahead is unclear?
My Personal Journey
I ask these questions because they reflect my own season of uncertainty and questioning. Through it all, one thing remains constant: God’s word doesn’t change. We are called NOT to trust in our limited understanding. Instead we are called to give ALL our hearts to Him. By acknowledging Him in ALL our ways, we can trust that He will make our paths straight.
A Prayer For Trust
Let’s pray:
Lord, You are trustworthy, and Your reliability remains steadfast even when everything around us changes. I pray that You grant us the grace we need each day to trust You more deeply. Help us trust You in our questions, uncertainties, and doubts. May our trust in You permeate every aspect of our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As you navigate through life’s challenges and uncertainties, remember that trusting in the Lord is a journey of grace, growth, and unwavering confidence in His perfect guidance.
